How to interpret a Dimensions placement test

The publisher says the Dimensions Math A/B placement tests measure mastery of the named book. These are not ordinary scored school examinations: the publisher recommends not timing placement tests, allowing at least one hour, and using mistakes and strategies to diagnose skill gaps. The tests sample representative skills rather than every topic in the curriculum.

These instructions do not prevent a particular school from having different policies, but a short timed result should not be treated as identical evidence to an untimed diagnostic.

Data and technical notes

The site is static HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It uses no backend, third-party analytics, external fonts, or payment functionality. Skill ratings saved through the mastery tracker remain within the visitor's browser (local storage). No student names or identifying details are required.

The content provides educational examples and should be updated if the publisher revises the program. Some more general formulas and challenge tasks extend beyond a particular textbook chapter and are identified where relevant.
